PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA ha creado para su quinta edición un número sustancial, principal y notable, bajo el lema LO ESENCIAL, que analiza lo perteneciente o relativo a la esencia en cualquiera de sus significados, formales, metafóricos, teóricos, filosóficos, políticos, emocionales, personales, vivenciales, carnales, existenciales, esenciales... Un “muestrario de esencias artísticas” en forma de caja de perfume (simulando el packaging del clásico perfume CHANEL nº5), conteniendo una caja de madera compartimentada con las veintiuna excéntricas páginas u obras de la revista.

Con una tirada de 30 ejemplares (no venales), PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA nº5 · LO ESENCIAL contiene dieciséis páginas u obras de poesía visual, pequeña escultura, pintura, dibujo, gráfica, creación procesual, etc., de artistas del entorno mostoleño que forman parte de su “equipo de redacción”, más dos páginas de dos reconocidas artistas invitadas y tres páginas colectivas.

La Federación de Comerciantes de Móstoles (FCM), colabora en la difusión del proyecto PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA, exponiendo en los escaparates de nueve comercios de la ciudad de Móstoles, sendos ejemplares desplegados de la edición PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA nº5 · LO ESENCIAL, del 18 de junio al 30 de julio de 2022. Una iniciativa que otorga visibilidad a nuestro excéntrico proyecto de un modo también inhabitual, haciéndolo llegar directamente al transeúnte accidental.

PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA es un proyecto de edición ensamblada, experimental y rara de arte contemporáneo, que nace en el Centro Cultural Villa de Móstoles en el año 2018 y produce la Concejalía de Cultura. Cuenta con la colaboración en la difusión de la Federación de Comerciantes de Móstoles, y la coordinación de Pepe Murciego, artista y coeditor de la revista La Más Bella.

PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA (IMAGINARY PERIPHERY) has created for its fifth edition a substantial, main and notable number, under the motto LO ESENCIAL (THE ESSENTIAL), which analyses what belongs to or is related to the essence in any of its meanings, formal, metaphorical, theoretical, philosophical, political, emotional, personal, experiential, carnal, existential, essential... A "sample of artistic essences" in the form of a perfume box (simulating the packaging of the classic CHANEL No. 5 perfume), containing a compartmentalized wooden box with the twenty-one eccentric pages or works of the magazine.

With a print run of 30 copies (not for sale), PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA No. 5 • THE ESSENTIAL contains sixteen pages or works of visual poetry, small sculpture, painting, drawing, graphics, procedural creation, etc., by artists from the Móstoles environment who are part of his “writing team”, plus two pages of two well-known guest artists and three collective pages.

CUADERNO ESENCIAL DE DIBUJO / ESSENTIAL DRAWING NOTEBOOK

Bruno Munari, artista y diseñador italiano del siglo XX, creó unas esculturas de viaje en papel para que cualquier persona pudiera llevar siempre en su maleta una obra de arte plegada y hacer del espacio un lugar más bello.

Inspirada en Munari, Ana Cano Brookbank ha creado un cuaderno de dibujo portátil a modo de acercamiento al dibujo como herramienta en todo proceso creativo. Así, partiendo de lo que considera esencial en las artes visuales -el triángulo, el cuadrado y el círculo (a nivel formal) y los colores primarios, junto con el blanco y el negro (a nivel cromático)- ha realizado unos trazados básicos para invitar al usuario a que continúe dibujando sobre ellos, convirtiéndose en un dibujo colaborativo a dos manos.

Bruno Munari, Italian artist and designer of the 20th century, created some paper travel sculptures so that anyone could always carry a folded work of art in their suitcase and make the space a more beautiful place.

Inspired by Munari, Ana Cano Brookbank has created a portable drawing notebook as an approach to drawing as a tool in the entire creative process. Thus, starting from what she considers essential in the visual arts -the triangle, the square and the circle (at a formal level) and the primary colours, along with black and white (at a chromatic level)- she has made some basic outlines to invite the user to continue drawing on them, becoming a twohanded collaborative drawing.

Esencia: Entre los alquimistas, principio fundamental de la composición de los cuerpos, por cuyo medio esperaban operar la transmutación de los metales (1).

Cojo pequeños trozos de escoria y los cubro con una pátina dorada, el lugar elegido para ir a buscarlos está cargado de simbolismo y valor sentimental. Seguramente mi acción podría tener algo que ver con psicomagia, tal vez subconsciente, tal vez onírico, son ilusiones de infancia, ”cosas” imaginadas de niño. Lo cierto es que lo que antes no apareció, surge ahora como posibilidad de trabajo.

Estoy por tanto tomando como punto de partida de este proyecto los viejos anhelos infantiles que me devuelven sin quererlo a las “antiguas” ilusiones, exploro, busco tesoros.

Transformar lo que fueron minerales manipulados y fundidos para conseguir metal. y ahora es “escoria”, restos inútiles que se desecharon, en objetos de arte, tiene algo de juego, de juego mágico y de alquimia, aquella ancestral búsqueda del oro a través de otro metal menos puro (quien sabe si en ese mismo lugar no se intentó ya).

Estas nuevas piedras, siguiendo con el juego, salieron de un lugar de referencia en mi vida, las transformo dándoles una nueva identidad y las depositaré en sitios de significado especial. Si desarrollase este proyecto sin dejar otra constancia que la piedra transformada, este acto sería importante para mí, sin duda; pero no sería suficiente como experiencia de arte (¿estética?), PERIFERIA IMAGINARÍA será parte de esa trasformación del objeto.

Dos pensamientos uno con una cierta antigüedad, el otro más reciente que me han salido al encuentro y me parecen útiles para tratar de explicar lo que quiero en este proyecto y que de algún modo argumentan la elección del soporte utilizado, (búsqueda de la “quintaesencia”) tierra unida a aire mediante el fuego, como espuma estable y seca:

“Y también a mí, que soy bueno con la vida, paréceme que quienes más saben de felicidad son las mariposas y las burbujas de jabón, y todo lo que entre los hombres es de su misma especie.” (2)

“Es la miscibilidad de las materias más opuestas lo que en la espuma se convierte en fenómeno. Al elemento ligero corresponde, evidentemente, la perversa capacidad de infiltrarse en los más pesados y asociarse con ellos, la mayoría de las veces fugazmente, en algunos casos incluso por más tiempo. <>, unida a aire, produce espuma estable y seca, como piedra de lava o vidrio con burbujas, fenómenos que sólo se consideran como espumas en la época moderna, ...” (3)

Essence: among alchemists, fundamental principle of the composition of bodies, by means of which they hoped to operate the transmutation of metals (1).

I take small pieces of slag and cover them with a golden patina, the place chosen to go to look for them is loaded with symbolism and sentimental value. Surely my action could have something to do with psychomagic, perhaps subconscious, perhaps oneiric, they are childhood illusions, "things" imagined as a child. The truth is that what did not appear before now appears as a work opportunity.

I am therefore taking as a starting point for this project the old childhood desires that inadvertently return me to the "old" illusions, I explore, I look for treasures.

Transform what were manipulated and melted minerals to get metal, and now it is "slag", useless remains that were discarded, in art objects, it has something of a game, a magical game and alchemy, that ancient search for gold through another less pure metal (who knows if in that same place itwas tried already).

These new stones, continuing with the game, came from a place of reference in my life, I transform them giving them a new identity and I will deposit them in places of special meaning. If I developed this project without leaving any record other than the transformed stone, this act would be important to me, without a doubt; but it would not be enough as an art experience (aesthetic?), PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA will be part of that transformation of the object.

Two thoughts, one with a certain age, the other more recent, that have come to me and seem useful to try to explain what I want in this project and that somehow argue the choice of the support used, (search for the "quintessence”) earth bound to air by fire, as stable and dry foam: “And also, to me, good with life, seems that those who know happiness the most are butterflies and soap bubbles, and everything that among men is of the same species.” (2)

“It is the miscibility of the most opposite materials that becomes a phenomenon in foam.
